Alrighty, so I've been holding off on upgrading to 64bit, but I'm thinking since Vista will be out sometime next year, that I may take the plunge. I already know there is no chance of me getting anything better than a socket 754 board, and I'm looking at the eVga nForce 3 250GB and a socket 754 Athlon 64 2800. I'm going to go ahead this week or next week and order an eVGA AGP GeForce 6600GT, which saddens me because I'm a total ATi guy. I should be able to sell my current mobo and cpu and heatsink, for about 120 bucks to a friend of mine who has been bugging me for it. So within the next 6 weeks I'd be looking to do it, and spend roughly 60-70 bucks out of pocket. Also have a friend who I can trade RAM with since he has the single 512MB stick of the exact same stuff I have, only I have the dual channel 2x256MB set. So it'll help us both out since his board has dual channel and the eVGA board doesn't, not to mention only having 2 RAM slots. Wat I want to know is 3 things. 1)How well does the 2800 oc with stock cooling. 2)Does anyone have any experience with this VGA Board? and 3)Do you guys think it's worth it to upgrade? I love DFI and ATi, but I'm just gonna have to let go of brand loyalty for a lower price this once. Thanks for your imput guys, have a good day.

If you're gonna upgrade to a 64bit AMD I would go for at least the 3200 otherwise you won't notice much difference. The 6600GT is a nice card and will perform well ( yes I'm an ATI guy too but see it as a good card!)
Don't know about that board so can't help sorry, but I think if you're going to upgrade, get a higher spec cpu, it'll be worth it.

TBH ... if your just getting an AMD64 because Vista is due out latter part of Q4 2006 then I would save up and wait until next year to upgrade as faster cheaper 64bit cpus will be available by then, plus the specs on what Vista will need to run will change many times.

plus by waiting and saving you will be able to not skimp on the parts you really want? ~ "you know it makes sense" :)

So you guys really don't think it's worth 60 bucks for all that? I mean c'mon? 60 bucks for the mobo and cpu out of my pocket. It's not just for the purpouse of Vista, I remember when the requirements for longhorn was like 64MB of RAM and a 180MHZ cpu, so yeah I'm not counting on anything.lol. I imagine all of my pc's are gonna do fine with longhorn though. It's moreso just feeling kinda outdated. How hard would it be to oc that 2800 to a 3200? If you'll notice my sig thats what I did with this pc and it runs a little faster than my friends real 3200. So I was actually thinking that would be my option. Thanks for the input still guys and keep it coming.
