would like help

i have an older game that i want to put on vista spicificaly a copy of The orignal starfleet comand gold, but visata does not want instal it rather it does not even recognize the cd as even being there

 

scratch that it instaled partialy then the installer shut down

 

Did you try running it in compatibility mode for the OS it was originally made for?

 

i'mnot trying to sound like an amiture(even though i am) but how do you do that?

 

Right-click on the exe file, and pick Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, and pick the right one in the drop-down menu.

 

cant get the cd to install the exe also exe is not on my computer
does Erorr with music file iw1w5.i4x mean any thing to you? thats all my pc tells me!

 

You don't need to install the exe. Navigate to the disc in your file explorer and run the file that way. And that error just means your PC can't play or use the file. As for why that is, I'd need to know a ton more about your computer.

 

what do you need to know?

 

Did the compatibility mode work? What operating system was the game made for? What version of Vista do you have and how up-to-date is it? What are the exact error messages you get? Does the game work on other computers, and did it ever work in windows XP?

vista home premium 64bit way up to date

used to have
vista ulimate 32 bit
512mb ram
2400amd athlon xp
gforce ???? i dont know really

game disigned for 96 98windows

 

and NO compatibility mode did not work

 

Wait... did the game work on your 32-bit Vista?

Possibly, yes. Not to mention, a lot of older software will not work on Vista... past a certain point, backwards compatibility just is not an option, there are too many differences to bridge.

It could, but it's more likely that the game just is too old for Vista. Sorry.
