Ok, i have this error that either locks up my machine, or gives me an error message saying ATI VPU Recover Error.

The lockups aren't always the same, but most of them have the sound in a loop (like a broken record) and the screen does a few different things, blue screen rarely but sometimes (with no text or anything, just solid blue), shuts off, and gives an error message from the monitor saying the video is out of range/sync (same error message as if the cable weren't plugged into the back of the card) or just scrambled pixels.

This is a known issue that ATI Radeons have been having (i browsed the Blizzard's WoW forums) but, all there seems to be is many many Radeon users having this similiar issue with no answer on how to fix it from Blizzard. I've seen responses of people trying several different catalyst drivers, and omega, with mixed results, but none of them being 100% fixes, just half fixes.

I just barely formatted my HDD, reinstalled windows, got all the windows updates, installed my drivers, including the below .NET that ATI's newest catalyst requires. installed WoW, and the first time i got in the game and went to a certain spot in the game that always triggers this problem, i had it again.

I unchecked the option in the Catalyst control center to "prepare an error report if VPU Recover is activated, for submission to ATI Technologies." and proceeded to hit that "spot" in the game a few times in a row, all 4 of the times i hit it, the game didn't "crash" and the PC didn't "lock up" but, the game did freeze for 6-7 seconds, black screen during that time, PC hangs and then everything catches up and video is returned back to normal. but after that i had a few lock ups in a row while running around. I'm almost certain this is related to the .NET or newest ATI driver, but dont know how to remove the .NET update and fully and cleanly remove the ATI drivers/catalyst i just installed to try an older driver that i never had this problem with.

I went a year+ without ANY problems with this card or game, i just barely started having these problems with the newest WoW patch or newest Catalyst Driver (11/11/05) i'm not sure which is the cause. I never have any issues in Battlefield2 or any other game except WoW though so i'm pretty sure its not a hardware issue.

    System Information:
    Pentium 4 2.8ghz
    1.0 gig Ram @ 533mhz
    PCI-Express 16x ATI Radeon x600 128mb

This is a known error; alot of people are having issues w/it and no solution; might want to try a diff driver set.

Ya, i kinda knew that already, but was wondering if there was a way to uninstall the .NET and fully and cleanly remove the ATI drivers so i can start over without having to format and reinstall windows.

well i gave up and traded in my ATI x600 128 mb for an Nvidia Geforce 6600 256mb PCI-E. I blamed my system crashes/lockups on my video card and said i didn't want an ATI so they gave me the Equivelant Nvidia, which is twice as good of a card. problem solved. ;)
