Well, I no longer have a full time job. I was laid off. I kinda saw it coming, and was ready to walk last Friday when I met with them. Their plans have changed as far as setting up a sign shop, so I am done with them. Almost. I am going to fix a few computers for him this weekend and next week for some cash.

And next week, he is going to put a timing chain in my truck for me. And even let me drive one of his cars for a couple of days so I can look for a job while they work on my truck. I would say I am leaving on good terms!

Well, I am going to take a nice long weekend, work on a couple of computers, play CSS, heck, maybe download some pron! Will hit the street next week and find another job.

Got a funny, at least to me, picture for you. My future desktop... My desk was a little cluttered today with the ones I was working on and my computers.

BEst of luck!! Not easy job hunting.

As bad as I know this is going to sound, I wish something like that would happen to me so I would ahve an excuse to go out there and get a job in a salon like I want to. I just can't justify the pay cut it would cost me at first... not right now anyways.....

Look at this as an opportunity to find something you really enjoy doing and make money at it. :)

yeah, I thank God that I am gainfully employed right now. Bills rack up way too fast when you don't have very much money coming in.

Something bigger and better is out there waiting for you. Meantime, get some R&R so you'll be fresh and rearing to go at your new job (that I'm sure will come your way soon - or at least when you're ready for it!;) ).

Glad to hear you've left on good terms...:clap !

:wine Here's wishing you all the best for your future.

    Cheers

Oh I know that Lev... but that comment has to be taken with the next inorder to be in proper context. Don't get me worng, I truly do appreciate my job and the benefits that go with it. I just have a dream that I want to follow that I can not financially justify right this minute. About the only way I can justify going out and doing what I truly want to right now is if I lost my current job. Considering on my last review I scored 9/10, I am not messing around, just know where I want to be is all.

PS: Fred.. sorry for the mini hijack there. Hope you're having a good time relaxing and downloading adult materiels :)

I definatly know the unemployed feeling. Being a carpenter and living near the north pole(Canada, near Maine) :D , Not much work at all in the winter months! Employment insurance is too much of a pain to get, Welfare is a joke, so saving the pennies left over from catching up from the winter before is all one can really do. Like usual, Power, and Cable are threatening to shut me down, the Landlord is choked. Good thing a house is starting in 3 weeks, should last about a year (6500 sq. ft.).
Working outside has its bonuses, but too bad for that 2 months every winter with no income. lifes vicious circle. Unfortunately getting a new job is not in the picture...7.15 an hour don't cut it at the coffee shop down the road..
Oh well join the club I suppose :) Winters end:)

Thanks for the kind words. Ironicly, I will make more this week than I would have if I was employed! Been fixing a few laptops for my former boss. Dang, this Thinkpad cranks out some heat while folding! Yep, borg for the weekend.

Well, I am off to play some CSS! I will find a job in the next week or so. Oh yeah, I found out today that my former boss is going to replace the timing chain on my truck next week for no charge! Parts and labor would cost me $350 to $700 if I had to pay a shop to do it!

Have a good one my fellow Geeks!:cool

My work was always in a standing position or hunched over scrubbing buckets, cleaning and cutting flowers, actually a nasty job people seem to think it's all fun. Worked with grown men on holidays who been in the business years and swear they were going to have a heart attack. (Holidays ewee shiver)

Oh, I know I like that show, that guys game for anything, huh? I don't have my shop any more nor do I work for anyone else. I also joined the ranks of the unemployed, retired actually, not what it's cracked up to be :(

Part of me wonders if i will ever retire. I don't know if I could handle not having a schedule to keep. I know that when I was unemployed in the past, that is what drove me nuttiest. Comes from being OCD I think.

I love that show as well . . . interesting to see what kinds of jobs exist outside of our normal experience. Who knew worms were so lucrative!!

Just give me 9 more years, and I can retire at 55 . . . I will still have to work at something to support my current lifestyle - but at least I'll have some options.

I honestly don't know how it feels to be unemployed . . . I've had a steady job (albiet different ones - I have been laid off at times and fired twice - once I shoveled pigeon s*** for a couple weeks to get an old, old power house in trim) since I was 15. I was all about getting out of my parent's house. Not that they were bad parents - they rock! - I can't imagine better parents, or a better childhood. I can see now that we were actually quite poor in comparison to our peers - but I never felt that way at home (there were some altercations at school - it helps to be of large stature as well), and all my memories bring me a smile. I was just an independant sort.

Good luck, Fred_G, in your ventures. I have a feeling you will come out ahead. It's all about attitude, as you know. Take at least a week off, before searching for the next gig. I do when between jobs.

Good luck fred hope you find what your looking for soon.

i was forced to retire after i damaged my back and neck unfortunately it was not work related so no compensation.

the welfare here is about 30% of my working salary so the lifestyle had to be greatly reduced and with all this time on my hands thank god for MGs

This is funny to me! Stopped by my old job to drop off some puters, and hung out for a little while. Total chaos. My ex-boss looked stressed as hell! :D

I am going to take my truck in Thursday to start on the timing chain replacement. I am enjoying a nice week of doing nothing, well except for working on some 'puters. I will begin the job hunt next week. And if you are bored, this will kill some time, at least it did for me http://addictinggames.com/indestructotank.html
I found the link at PCApex.com. I did not find it myself.

I lost my job a few years ago. Then it went to health reasons ( look up old posts. )
While I was there we were sold 7 times and EVERY person that was let go found a better paying job doing something they liked to do.
This might be a blessing in disguise.
    I wish you the best.

Well, my ex boss is doing what he said he would do. I came in this morning, took off the valve cover, took out the radiator and oil pump and,the fan, finally got the front cover off and exposed the timing chain. I love air tools!

Should have a nice shinny new timing chain on the truck sometime Friday. Damn, that is a lot of work, now I see why It is 7 hours labor plus parts at a shop rate!

Good thing I have 2 experts helping me with this, could not do it on my own. I can change the oil, do a front brake job, but this is beyond me.

I will have some picts Friday.
