Wow My Sister.. Asking For A Friend. Lolq

Okay My sister clicked on an email, Microsoft Security.. I know.. she explains it as a "grey haired moment" and then gives them access via remote. She gets spooked hangs up on them, as it was a phone call and them telling her what to do on her computer. Not knowing what to do next she calls Microsoft and till them what just happened. They upgrade her from Windows 7 to Win10 Home and say she should probably change her bank account number. I'm not sure how the crooks programing works but if she were to change her password and they installed a keylogger on her computer when they had access. wouldn't she be giving everything they wanted ? Or is it already to late?
Not sure where to ask for help on this?

 

well, amongst the many things that could be done to insure a clean computer and peace of mind...
the first thing she should do is download, install, and run malwarebytes, and see what it finds.

if this would have happened to me, i would make sure that i had a backup of my data, then i would basically nuke the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch, to get that elusive peace of mind.

Thanks. I figured nuking the drive would be the best form of protection but as My sister is 3600 kilometers away and isn't very computer savvy, she might just take it to a tech company in Calgary. Again thanks.
