    Good evening chaps

    I have a new PC i bought last christmas amd athlon 2 x3 440 proc 3ghz. 3k ram, 64 bit os. wind 7.

it did not come with a great graphics card and now i have the cash to spend on one. i used the pc for games and films and internet. What would be my best card option to buy for under £100 in the UK. I would like to start playing some call of duty online or eve online again as well as get back into some heavy gaming..

    Any advice would be good

    Thanks

The nvidia 8400gs card is becoming the more common mid graphics card chosen.

    what are the specs

the 8400 when i do a bit of research seems a bit below low level though with 256mb and game out in 2007!

i want a good one like with 1g and can spend up to £150 on a good card but if i can get a good one for 80 that is idea for me

    thanks

what about the AMD Radeon HD 6790? 840MHz. i did a comparison on pc review http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/graphics-cards/compare
it game out on top of the range from £80-£120 price range but what is the difference between a 6 pin and a 2 x 6 pin connector?

    Thanks again

The 8400 comes in 512mb also. Again, that is mid range. If you are not playing any games, and just doing Internet or watching movies, that card would work.

8400GS? Err no...I would suggest the AMD Radeon HD5670 instead. Offers better performance, DX 11 support!

You also need to keep your PSU in mind, to see if it will power your new graphics card well, in addition to the rest of your PC hardware.

Mid-High end cards require external PCI-E power connectors. Most mid-end cards only require one PCI-E power connector, while the more powerful ones require two.

The HD5670 suggested above doesn't need one, as it draws power from the PCI-E slot.

Well i am looking for a good performing card that will last me some years so i can invest £150 if i have to. what would be the easiest way to see if my pc can take a 2 x 6 pin card ?

is there an easy way to see what my psu can deliver in power and how much of it is currently being used before i buy a new card? ideally a card that can just fit into the pci e slot.

the 5670 has only 512 compared to the 6790 1024 in mb
5670 does not have shader 5.0

in fps 5670 shown in first column and 6790 in second, since i will be playing mid level graphic games i want something good in the medium settings. but the 6790 does have the 2 x 6 pin thing and before i discount it i want to be sure it wont be compatible first.

    3D performance (crysis) low settings 137fps 166fps
    3D performance (crysis), medium settings 58fps 96fps
    3D performance (crysis) high settings 25fps 39fps

so ideally also how can i check if i can use this card? and is there a better card than the 5670 that can slot straight in? with good fps and ideally also good fps

    thanks guys

Agreed with those who suggested this card, 256bit, GDDR5 a good core clock and 1GB.

As for compatabilty you will need a PCI-E 16x slot and a PSU of at least 500W (minimum!) with 2x 6-pin PCI-E connectors.

It wont last you "years" of heavy gaming since games are getting heavier but will play COD etc just fine.

For compatibility we would need the make and model of both your Motherboard and PSU.

How can i give details of the motherboard? when i bought it from PC world it came with almost no paperwork! which i was told was ok as it was all info was printable from pc lol.

    but i have a hp amd athlon2 x3 440 processor 3.0ghz
    3gig ram.

How can i find the power output of my psu?

or if you need the actual motherboard details where can i find this?

    Thanks

Most likely either a 650 or 750 watt power supply. The model # on the sticker either on the back, or on the front of the case helps also. Post a picture of the unit. The power supply will also have a sticker on it, but you will have to detach it from the case to see what the spec's are on that label, due to usually is on the top of the ps case, that is against the computer case.

isnt there a test i can do on my pc that will tell me its power supply? plus what is using up what and how much left?

that way i can see what my current one is using and what i have left and what i need to buy to support a new card?

    thanks

been looking on here also for cards. wish they gave a fps so i can actually see which is better

is there a site that has all the cards known and can give a FPs rating on them?

plus more cores is better yes?

because the 6790 series looks good on the above link but do they arr require the 2 pin thingy?

    thanks
