    Hello,
I frequently have a pop up window that says "Messenger Service" in the top left and tells me to go to windowspatch.net. It says that I need to download a patch from here. Is this legit?

    No, it's spam.
You need to turn off your messenger service, and you won't get these anymore.

Go into services, stop the "messenger" service and then disable it.

About 3 or 4 years ago I had the 'messenger service' thing too, and some guy advertising on how to stop it. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me and there wasn't any info on it, this was before it became well known. I was a sucker and paid 14.95 for a program that did exactly what I could have done, stopped the messenger service and then disabled it.

    I was an amateur then tho....LoL. :p
