X-25 and Frame Relay?

    Hey Guys,
    Not sure if this makes sense to some. If X-25 became popular in the States around 1980 and was Standardized in 1984. But then Frame Relay came out( assuming frame relay took over X-25 as the like defacto standard in a way.) Why would they come out with an update with X-25 in 1994? Do things still use X-25 over Frame Relay?
    Just a networking question I thought of during class today.

    Yes, x.25 is still in use where network technology is yesteryear; copper pair trunking, no sat use, dumb terminals, can-to-can via string (progresso). Unfortunately for some locales, there is insufficient technology to support frame relay, based on the OSI model, which x.25 predates.:wave

    EDIT: So it's like an older smaller company with only a few computers using Token Ring still in place of a Star topology?
