X10 Controllable Halloween Decorations Webcams for Celiac Disease

The Halloween decorations webcam recently went online and figured it was "geeky" enough to merit a post here.

Three Webcams and X10 power controls allow you to turn thousands of lights on and off ... plus inflate/deflate the giant pumpkin, Frankenstein, and Homer Simpson - D'OH!!!! ;-)

Totally free and (arguably) totally over the top. I've added a few bells & whistles this year - let me know what you think ... and don't be too grossed out if the ... uhhhhh ... geek in webcam3 picks his nose occasionally ...

P.S. Also has a Celiac Disease (my kids have this) awareness/fund-raising aspect to it - over $14,000 so far from various business who donated to the University of Maryland.

My kids wander in and out of my office ... but it's more fun outside where the action is - see some of the halloween movies and here's one cute image of Kyle "bowing" to Frankenstein and Homer - was amazed on the timing of this shot.

I played "outside" for a while last night.It was great fun,though I think as fast as I was inflating Homer and Frank,someone else was deflating them and turning the lights off on me lol

Great site, as always, and an awesome cause. My son's paternal grandfather has celiac disease.

I had no idea my son was doing this until I went outside and told him to come inside for dinner and he told me he was trying to keep Frank-n-Homer up. And then when I was generating an hour of time-lapse later that evening, I saw the sequence - I couldn't have staged it better if I had tried.

 

LOL that is too funny...I love it when they have both collapsed and your son is stuck in the middle of them hehe. Sweet

My first born son wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until he was two and a half. Until then, there were countless hospital visits, checkups, and tests ... including 4 days at Denver Children's Hospital for "failure to thrive" ... which means he ain't growing but we don't know why. That's not a good thing to hear ... :-(

Celiac is still often mis/un-diagnosed ... despite evidence showing that one of of 133 people are afflicted with it - read the landmark study from the University of Maryland ... which incidentally is the folks I'm supporting. So increasing awareness of Celiac Disease so someone else doesn't have to go through what I did is one of the primary reasons I do this.

Plenty of good causes out there - this one just happens to be personal for me. And good news is Celiac is treatable (via strict diet) - you just have to know you have it. So every little bit of extra publicity helps and I figure this is about as offbeat of an approach there is - thanks again!


OK - enough long-winded serious stuff ... among other reasons I do it include the technological challenge to pull it off ... plus it's just darn fun - as Homer Simpson would say - D'OH! ;-)

My niece has the celiac disease since she was diagnosed with it I have learned a lot about it.

BTW, I added an "Instant Message" feature to the halloween decorations webcam - punch a message in, and a laptop on webcam3 shows your message for all to see - heh, heh! ;-)
