This may belong in the software forum as well, but i didnt want to double post. I recently bought a 256MB X1300 as a cheap upgrade for my integrated graphics...I installed it, installed included drivers, all the usual steps.....and it worked fine....for a while.

I decided to upgrade the drivers, which is when the problem began. The monitor turns off and goes into power save mode, and i have to power the pc off and back on to get it to start up again. Sometimes it requires two or three powerup attempts to get a picture on the screen again.

I figured the error was with the new drivers so i uninstalled them AND ran driver cleaner to get rid of all traces...then i reinstalled the drivers that came with the card (the ones that worked....) Same problem though. Every time i restart windows to get it working again it gives me the old "system has recovered from a serious error" thing. These are the files included in the report....

    C:\DOCUME~1\Aaron\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERfa5f.dir00\Mini082306-02.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Aaron\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERfa5f.dir00\sysdata.xml

I have searched around and many people on google appear to have problems with these files, but none of theirs appear to be video related.....so i decided that maybe it was something other than the video.....seemed logical...but wrong. I reported the error to microsoft and it came up as a "stop error" and said it was the video card causing the problem...something about thread_stuck_in_loop....i'm sure that's not the exact wording, but the main idea is that there is a loop running through the card i guess....anyway i dont know what to do....i think it brings up a blue screen of death, but as the monitor turns off instantly i cant be sure

Lil more info....the card is generally fine as long as i'm constantly working, but when i leave it sitting still for long periods of time it tends to happen....i turned the screensaver, and power save modes on and off in many combinations but still no dice. I also thought it may be overheating, so i turned my CPU down to it's stock clock rate, but temps appear fine either way....i think it is video related, and i believe it may be software, because it doesnt happen in my friend's computer when i put the card in there to test it...it ran for 24 hours without a single error so i dont think it is a hardware problem.....PLZ HELP IT"S DRIVING ME NUTS AND I CANT AFFORD A REPLACEMENT!!

No dice...same prob....HIS support suggested that the card was defective, and told me to RMA...sent back and am getting a 7600GT instead...no more ATI for me as this is the 2nd defective card from them, and all my Nvidia back to the MX series have never failed
