is it possible to connect my own full size (not laptop size) sata hard drive to an xbox 360 without the xbox 360 enclosure? maybe a connector where one end connected to the proprietary xbox hdd connector and the other end had a sata input?

i searched google and found nothing that would help.

Not that I know of. Th 360 is proprietary all the way when it comes to hard drives. You might be able to do it if you mod it, and if the firmware allows it, but given that it's basically a hit or miss to do it with a CD-tray, I don't know that your odds are that good. Sorry.

well, my friend is soon getting an xbox 360 from his cousin, and he doesn't want to spend huge dollars for an official microsquash hard drive, so i thought i could just buy an adapter and give him one of my spare hard drives.

BUT since now i know that usb hard drives can be used, it makes this a lot easier, since he probably wont be downloading a bunch of xbox live stuff...but one more question. do you need a hard drive for online play? and, do you still need to pay money to play online, or is it free now?

ah, you need to pay money if you wan't to play online - yeh, but you don't have to have a hard drive to go online just as long as you don't download anything, allthough i never do it personally so i could be wrong - but id assume, if just 'connecting' you won't need a hard drive - as far as i understand it, you can (if necessary) just use a memory card in the worse case scenario - saves getting one with a hard drive if your not gonna use all that internal memory, ya know?

im pretty sure that the warranty is already expired or voided, its an older xbox360

simply adding a memory card wouldn't void the warranty - neither would plugging in a USB external hard drive, it only voids if u open it up and mess with the internals, wires and that =D

    should be all guuud

so it sounds like ill just tell him to get a usb hard drive and that should be fine.

for external storage like songs and that - totally mate, if he wants to save a lot of games / download xbox live content - he needs a memory card. =D

that should be ok, you can buy the memory cards up to 512mb so it should be fine.

    thanks everybody!
