Xbox 360 or PS3... WHICH IS BEST & WHAT'S THE DIFF?

Well, Christmas is soon and I need to buy one of these systems for my son. He hasn't really said which one he wants so I would really appreciate some opinions/feedback on which system might best.

 

I'd say X-Box 360, it has the most games right now, it has proven to have more powerful hardware, and most importantly:
cheapest X-box 360 = $300
cheapest PS3 = $500

 

Xbox 360 is best value, but PS3 is the better system, but you'd expect it, because it's nearly double the price.

I'd go for Xbox 360.

 

I already have a 360 so I might be biased. Right now I would choose the 360. Not only is it cheaper but it has some really great games. PS3's launch titles are pretty weak except for one game. That's another thing, PS3 just came out and availability is really low. You never know what kind of problems systems are going to have when they first come out. I didn't buy my 360 until March of this year, several months after its release, for this reason.

Of course, I haven't heard about any problems similar to what microsoft had. I also really like the 360 controllers and keep wondering why Sony has had the same controller for three consoles.

You didn't mention the Wii, no interest in that? Although the hardware isn't up to snuff with the other two it looks like fun to play. The controllers are also very unique. It is also much cheaper than the other two.

Again, right now I would choose the 360. Six months to a year from now I might go with the PS3. I just don't think it is worth the price right now.

 

Well, I always liked the ps controllers, in fact, back when , I almost bought an X Box and tried the Controller , and immediately chose ps 2. I dont need a hand held keyboard! streamline is nice .. ty sony for keeping the nice controller. Ahem even Super Nintendo controlers are nice.
It is too bad that these days a console game cant come out with bugs fixed, though man they can slam our pc's to the floor or what? Though I suppose if I could afford a sony 3, I may just instead slam a couple of 8800's into my dual PCI e sli mobo, and get to bitch here at the same time.

PS3 like all playstation games will have the better game play.
Sure 360 has alot of games now. You dont think PS3 wont.hahaha.
The kicker is PS3 will start low with there grafx, just enough to look nice like X Box, then the games will really start flowing with gfx that will boot the world in the head...
Please some one post the beautifull specs of the PS 3.
though over priced today, so was the ps 2, now its at your friendly neighborhood pawn shop for about 65.00$
I bet the Wii has better game play than X Box.

Flash cards (usb keys as I call em) are the new wave. Thats the only thing sony cant brag about....Why do I need a blue tuna when I have a DVD..Why do I need a DVD when I have USB keys that dont scratch or damage?
I may be wrong, but they also said BETA tapes were the cats ***!

Xbox 360's initial releases weren't hot either...

You have to wait a year or more before good games come out.

So now come the real tough question
My son is also addicted to Civ 3. We bought Civ 4 but my Dell Inspiron 8000 PIII 256 900Mhz 20G does not support it well at all. We also bought an IBM ThinkPad 256K 796Mhz at a garage sale for $50.00 ( Iknow, it was a steal) I know these both will need upgrades, BUT my question is: Do any of these systems( xbox, Ps3, WII) 1- use a keyboard, 2- play any of the PC games or be used for anything else but playing games?

Xbox, PS3, WII, Laptop, .... I think I'm in overload mode.... ahhhhh.............

 

Well they are console gaming machines, so even if thats all they do. Thats exactly what they are made and sold to do.
I seem to recall SEGA had a web TV thing going on there for awhile. I wouldnt be surprised if this will be true for sony and XBox. though for XBox, It is microsoft and well they have pcs market. I think XBox just jumped in to the console thing because there was a market. I wouldnt be surprised if Xbox lost money just for the write off. Possibly even SONY.
Besides all that, why the keyboard when you have a controller with (lol) just as many buttons?hehe

 

PS3 is better because it's double the price? That's possibley the most stupidest thing I think I've heard in ages....

 

i think they are all way overpriced, and i wouldnt dream of spending that kind of money on a christmas pressy for my kid! donate $500 to your favourate charity and get your boy to EARN and SAVE to get his own. jmho. aloha

 

I can only go from experience,I bought an original xbox and I only ever really longed for one game,Gran turismo,I would buy a ps3 just for that but its touch and go whether it will even be released

each system has their ups n downs. but if u want to buy a console for christmas then i say xbox 360. why? because theres more choice of games available. the ps3 has only be released so availablity is very low. the ps3 games library isnt great because its only been released.

but u know u could try asking your son which console he wants...

 

Well I would say PS3 is the best gaming console today, even with the low availability of games because I dont believe people were being robbed or shot at while waiting in line for the X-Box 360. The only reason X-Box is more popular now is because its been out for a while now, whilst the PS3 has only been out a few weeks. give it time and the PS3 will rise to power and dominate.

 

While I do agree $500.00 is way too high, my favorite charity at the moment is my 13 year old son. My son has been working at a local Pizzeria for the last 6 months and has helped me to pay for many bills while his dad is living it up in Germany with some Bimbo. I am more grateful than he knows. I honestly think he deserves a little reward for being so caring & responsible. Perhaps there will be one less DeadBeat Dad in the future!!

I did find a slightly used one with 2 wireless controllers and 2 games for under $250.00 from a local businessman. Perhaps we were his charity this year!!

Have you considered the Wii? I played my friend's and it is just AMAZING. The controller is sooooo cool, and you can spend hours just playing the sports games that come with it. Im definitely a PS3 guy but at the moment id say the Wii would be a great choice. Zelda is such a great game; IMO it would be worth getting the Wii just for Zelda and Wii Sports. But between the PS3 and 360, i vote PS3. Like everyone else has said, it hardly has any games out right now but once next year rolls around, its library will begin to grom exponentially. Great games like Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, and Final Fantasy are PS3 exclusive as well as Resistance and Warhawk (where did Killzone 2 go!?!?) Visually its about on par with 360 at the moment despite being vastly more powerful (just give it some time, it will get much better) All of our input is probably overloading right now lol but just think it over, your kids will be happy with whatever you get them, be it a Wii, 360, or PS3.

Buy The 360 it's has a trusted multiplayer (Xbox live) and you will be able to buy one by Xmas unlike the PS3 (only 2mill. by end of year). also better games for a kid on Xbox

 

I agree, the ONLY reason that the price is so high and in a way almost worth it is because of it's Blu-Ray player. A stand-alone blu-ray player is pushing $1,000 at this time. But then you have to realize that you can't utilize the blu-ray player in it's true form unless you have an HDTV, so if you don't have an HDTV, then the PS3 IS just an over-priced game system.


Back on topic, my personal choice is the Xbox 360.

 

Think I said this, but BLUERAY, will turn into the same thing as their BETA (small VHS tape)

i'm not to sure on the diff between the 2 but xbox 360 has more games and the xbox live is up and running and has lots of features. the ps3 has online capability but i don't think i would get one just yet, i mean it just came out and if i'm not mistaken already had a recall. if your son is into more real time strategy games you might just want to upgrade your pc. the xbox 360 will be easier to find and has some pc games for it (f.e.a.r. prey etc...) and its already got the bugs worked out of it, in reality you could buy an xbox 360 premium ($400) and acessories and games and still come out cheaper than the ps3 w/o any games.
