Ok we recently got a new NETGEAR modem to replace our old one that didn't have enough power to support all the devices we had that were connecting to it. Ever since then, my Xbox LIVE Connection has been extremely slow.

    Here's the details:
All the computers, including my brother's Xbox which is directly connected to the modem, have perfect internet, except when my sister is being an idiot and using a torrent to download movies. My Xbox is connected to my computer via ethernet cable and my computer has a wireless connection to the modem. The modem is on the upstairs floor and I am on the ground floor. I have tryed using both the eternet cable connected to my computer and our wireless adapter.

I can stay connected to Xbox LIVE for a while and do small things like check the marketplace and download things. However, whenever I play a game like Halo on matchmaking or playing a game with my friends the connection either A. goes incredibly slow, B. Disconnects, or C. works for 5-10 minutes, then does either A or B.

I have already checked Xbox.com support and could not find anything to help, so I thought I'd ask here. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them, thank you. If you need anymore information feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Is your wired connection more or less stable than your wireless, or is it the other way around? Pick one of them, preferably the more reliable one, and we'll start working on that one. Switching back and forth between the two won't help you get a steady connection to Live.

My Wired is more stable than my wireless connection.

Also would like to say that on my Xbox connection settings both of them are set to automatically retrieve an IP address and what not if that has an value in this.

Are all settings completely on auto? Do you have a firewall in the router and what is it set to? If this consistent or is it happening more in some games than in others?

Yes, each setting is set to auto at least on my Xbox, the firewall settings are set to, from what I can see which isn't really much, On and Don't allow exceptions is checked when I go into the settings, if this was what you were asking for. And yes it is consistent in all games, and I recently downloaded Mass Effect from the marketplace and it just flat out disconnects me when I play that.

Ouch! Travesty! Such a magnificent game, and it won't let you play it?!?:crybaby

    Ahem. Sorry. :p

Okay, so here's my first thought... you used the phrase "all the computers" earlier. How much do you have going through your router? How many devices does the 360 have to share the bandwidth with? Are you able to disconnect everything except your 360 for an hour to see if that makes the problem go away? If it does, that'll indicate the problem is you just have too much going through that one doorway. If that doesn't fix it, that will tell us we need to look at the 360 itself, and the hardware around it (tested a different cable yet?).

For all its grand abilities and qualities (like dying every four months with bright red rings... grrrr!), the 360 is not quite a computer, and the more factors you have complicating the connection, the more issues it's going to have. And the more we can rule out, the easier it will be to narrow down what's causing your problems. :)

Oh no, I can play it (awesome game too) I was just simply saying that whenever I play it, it disconnects me from XBox LIVE

We currently have 4 computers and 2 Xboxs, including mine.

No, I have not, I shall try that tomorow.

I know your pain, my Xbox has gotten red rings like 5 times

I might be thinking of the PC version of ME... it requires a live internet connection to be able to play at all (vicious DRM bastardness ;) ).

Try with a different cable and also try if you can to connect it with all other devices disconnected and see if that makes a difference. I'll check back tomorrow night for updates. :)
