My Old Xbox that I swapped for a new Xbox still will not pass the IP address phase of the XBox Live test. I have a Scientific Atlanta modem and a Netgear router (new) with comcast DCHP. Router is set to DCHP. Worked with Xbox and they set XBox to same MAC address as computer. Still nothing. I have not tried the new Xbox directly with ethernet. Old xbox wouldn't connect either way. I am trying wirless connection of the xbox. Shouldn't be this difficult in my mind. I've tried the power down sequence and can't get the IP addressing to pass the test. Any help would be appreciated. The xbox people want a static ip address assigned by comcast. Comcast says this is ridiculous as they only assign static ip address through a business account which is extra money. any help?

Static ip from comcast is bullshit dont need it. Assuming you hookup a pc to the router via ethernet it works yes? Also if you skip the diagnostic test and try to game/connect does it work?

My pc works via ethernet and my laptop works wirelessly.....I have not tried to bypass test and game/connect. How do you bypass their tests and just game/connect?

I'll have to talk to the xbox support again to try this, thanks. My laptop is working wirelessly too, so the only trouble I'm having is the xbox connecting to internet/xbox live.

More then likely its an xbox issue as i see it, but its hard to figure that out for sure.

Hi. I have similar issues with wireless devices, ie: my mobile will happily connect wireless'ly with the router and get the connection, whereas my desktop will sometimes say no connection. Its possible you ISP maybe re-newing your I.P address (usually every 4-6 months) and this can disrupt your service. a quick suggestion that sorts out most connectivity issues at home is to turn off the Netgear router and the hub for atleast 30 seconds. then turn it back on, and wait about a minuet for it to re-configure itself, before you try to connect to it again (via Desktop, xbox, etc). Its worth a shot, i hope it works.
