My old toshiba notebook has crashed. Yes, I dropped it....more than once to be honest. (RIP). I can only boot into 'safe mode". I get a blue screen when booting in regular mode and get caught in a continual loop.

I just purchased a HP Pavilion 8055. I have a CAT5e Crossover Patch Cable. I want to transfer all my files to my new computer.

In the past, I have used the XP wizard feature to create a network.... I can't do this in "safe mode".

Is there another way to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunatley you may be stuck with bringing up a network. Im no PC expert, but I know you can get an adapter that will allow you to remove your old hard drive and use you USB port on your new laptop to make it a second drive. Then you can copy the files directly. I know some of the guys at work have the kit, its great, you can use it on any hard drive. I'll see if I can find it, its about $ 20.00

    It is a long shot.

If the laptop has a floppy or a boot capable CD drive ,you can create a boot to Network floppy in might be able to connect from the new computer with the crossover cable and copy the file.

It turns out that there is a "Safe Mode with Networking" mode you can select that will allow you to transfer the files using a CAT5 patch cable... Took a while to figure it out, but got most of the files that weren't corrupt or damaged.

    Thanks for the ideas.
