I downloaded and ran Xionix Regserve last night. By all indications, it need to be done. Unfortunately my PC is unable to acquire an IP address now. Any suggestions?

Did Regserve allow you to make any .REG file backups of the changes it was going to make? If so, I would go to that first.

For a second attempt, I would open up 'Network Connections', and try setting an IP manually and/or toggling automatic IP off then on again.

If those both fail, we're down to registry editing. You would need to make sure your user account has permissions to this key (assuming it still exists!):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces

And we can set some values inside, but let's cross that bridge when we get to it.

As an aside, I might recommend switching to a safer registry cleaner, such as CCleaner in the future.

Ultimately I had to go back to a system restore date and start over. Incidentally the system restore point that Reg Serve created was not functional.

You recommend CCleaner, which I appreciate. However, I now question how much benfit these programs actually provide.

    Thanks,
