.xls files

    I keep trying to open a .xls file without excel. The computer tells me (obviously) that I need to download excel, but I'm only on XPservice pack 1, and the version of Excel the computer tries to download won't run it. Is there another .xls reader/converter program that I can download without service pack 2? Really need this file!!!!

    Your computer is not trying to download any version of Excel. Visit the link posted by solaris89 and download the Excel Viewer 2003.
