Also my dad downloaded this (XoftSpySE) and I had never used it before. The update feature is nice and it seems pretty fast overall, but I'm not sure on its reliability. Would I be better off with a different anti-spyware, or specifically googling one?

SUPERantispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware seem to be the favorites and found excellent by MG. I use both as freeware, as in after the fact scans. Read up on them.
