XP Accounts

I just want to know if anyone could tell me when the registry loads in XP? is it after you enter your account and password? or when the system boots?

If I set up a second account, can I set it up differently to use less memory, for example by not running certain startup programs and changing my theme to classic with no wallpaper/screensaver etc? just so there is less crap going on to slow down my gaming.

If I do this will it affect the way my other account is loaded and looks?

The registry is not a single object but several. The individual components load at different times during the boot process as they have different jobs to do. Clearly as the registry contains your account details and password to check with your entries that component must be loaded BEFORE the GUI welcome screen.

If you are running XP home it does not contain the necessary policy components to restrict users access to programs, only windows 2000/XPpro can do this.
However a few well written programs allow you to do this as an option when you first set them up. You will have to check out those yours, you may be lucky.

You can customise the look and feel of each account for windows without affecting any of the others.
Many well written programs, eg. msn messenger (??!!) allow you to set the options differently for each user. You can certainly gain rescources by setting any of these NOT TO START with windows from the program options or preferences.
