I bought two computers, used, to give to my grandsons. Both have Windows XP Pro as the operating system.
I got them home and attempted to log on and got the msg that I must activate Windows XP and asked if I wished to do so. Answering "YES" the next screen says "Windows has already been activated" and tells me to click OK to exit. I do so and I am right back at the log in screen and the whole thing starts over again. I tried the laptop and exactly the same thing happens, what is my remedy?

You should contact the person or business you purchased the computers at and see if they have the orginal installation disk with the product keys for these computers. Microsoft is very miserly with Win XP. If these copies weren't registered right or the product key's weren't entered then you might end up have to spend money getting new disks and/or product key's. Also as them if they set up a log in and password and what that info is. They may have some of there personnal settings still in place blocking other people from logging on.

Then again someone here may come up with a software fix for you. Keep us posted as to what you find out and check back in case someone else has an answer.:)

You must as tigerray said above contact your person you bought them off to ask them if XP was activated and if they enabled a password for the logon screen? if they enabled a password they should be able to give it to you.

is this the screen it keeps returning to

or do you get to a normal windows desktop? if its one above you will need a password from the seller to get to the desktop.

if its saying its already activated and are at the desktop then choose the phone method to activate and Microsoft will go through it manually.
