    Hello,
I am new to this forum, and I am having problems trying to get the Windows 7 upgrade advisor. I have been trying different settings, rebooting, and I still get the same error.
The program downloads fine, and when I try to run it, it responds long enough to give me the following error message and runs no futher:

    "SEND ERROR REPORT"

All I get is the error I get when I look in the reporting box:

    EventType : clr20r3 P1 : windowsupgradeadvisor.exe P2 : 2.0.5002.0
    P3 : 4b06d9a9 P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4333ab80 P7 : 1a87
    P8 : 10 P9 : system.typeloadexception

I hope someone can help me with this.

Thanks for all replys in advance.

clr20r3 may have something to do with .NET framework. What versions and Service packs have you installed?

Looking over the list of requirements for the win7 upgrade advisor to work, it appears you need to be running XP SP2 at least and .NET 2.0 or higher if on XP.

I am running XP Service Pack 3, and it shows that I have Net 2,0. I am not even sure Net 2.0 is even running. How do I check that out to see if it is turned on??

I don't think it is something that you control by turning it on or off.

From doing a bit more reading, I saw that if you try and run the Upgrade Advisor and do not have >NET 2 installed, the site will tell you and offer you that download as well.

I went searching because with 7 computers in the house, I do lose track of what is installed on each. .NET will be listed in the add/remove programs. I know because I had a look at one of the computers to try and figure out if I could run the upgrade advisor on it. ;)

I'll do some more searching and see if anyone has a similar error and found a solution to it.

What is the brand and model of your computer?

Does it meet all of these requirements:
    1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

    Hi

WDDM is Windows Display Driver Model and info HERE and HERE

Your specs seem ok for Windows 7 but still would be worth seeing what the Advisor mentiones to make sure on other hardware and software you have.

Error seems to be a .net one, try installing this .NET 3.5 and then install and run the advisor again.

I will try to install the .NET 3.5 and run the advisor again. I hope this works this time.

Thanks for you help with my problem. I installed .NET 3.5 and DirectX 9.0b. I was able to run the advisor. One more question, how do you know for sure that DirectX did install. When it unziped, in went into a temporary file, but it never did show any kind of install information. I am guessing when I installed the Net frame work, it installed too. Again, thanks for your help!!!!!

    Hi

Glad you managed to get it to install and run now.

Click Start and then Run and type dxdiag and hit enter, then look at the System tab and at bottom of system information box is DirectX version, dont think an updated DirectX installs with .Net 3.5 but latest version of DirectX is 9c for XP , 10.1 for Vista and 11 for Windows 7
