I can't find a thread on this...and I can't remember how to do it. Cousin was away for a weekend...while away her grandsons were "playing" on her computer. Now she has no BACK button on her upper bar. How can we restore this?..I know there is a work around but I would like to know myself in case I run into this myself
    thanks all

Typically you need to right click somewhere inside the bar and select customize, then move the available button over to the current buttons but you have to highlight the correct current button spot before adding. In your case it would probably be the very first spacer (or the forward button), you can remove it and try again until its right.

This will work for Windows Explorer and a few Browsers but because you chose to leave out that info I have to guess.

Thank you!... she uses IE6 or 7...that is all I know, my guess is the 7 as her machine is not that old and set to download updates automatically...
sent the info on to her... she really needs to learn this stuff...first thing to learn is to keep the stinkin kids off the computer ... turn it off and take the power cord if need be...

The simplest way to keep the kids away is to set up XP to require a pass on login and return from standby. That way if the kids turn on the PC when shes away, they can't get anywhere unless they guess the login. If she sets her PC to go into stand-by after say 5 min of inactivity and then require a pass to get back on from stand-by, that would only leave a 5 min gap where the kids could get on if she walked away to answer the phone. And if she got in the habit of entering stand-by to answer the phone, they would be screwed.

She could also setup a login for the kids where there own settings effect their login but not hers. With the kids on an account with extremely limited access, they would not be able to mess up the PC, only the part of it they can access. So their explorer would not have a back button but hers would.

    Tell her to google:
    1. Creating a limited access account in XP
    2. Requiring a password to logon or return from stand-by
    3. Kid proofing your PC
