I'm having major problems with my pc. It suddenly freezes and I have to do a hard boot to restart it. I can't run my McAfee scans or spybot or adaware because it freezes after about 2 mins into the scan.

I *think* one of my kids got a virus from a website they were visiting even tho I have McAfree.

I have an HP Pavillion w/AMD Athlon XP 2000
    1.66Ghz
    480 of RAM

I can't find the cd that came with my pc. Right now I'm at work and I use XP Pro here. Is it possible to create a boot disk from my work pc or should I just use the reinstallation CD for my work pc which is a dell?

    TIA

even if you made a boot disk, the virus would still be present on your system and wreaking havoc. Your best bet is to take out the Hard Drive and put it into a machine that has an updated AV on it and scan the drive.

disclaimer: Please back up important data on the scanning machine prior to putting the possibly infected HDD in it.

Ouch! I'm gonna kill my kids. I have updated AV on my system. However, my son said he *think* he might have by passed it when he went on a website the other day.

The pc runs in safe mode and I am able to scan some of the hd but not the whole thing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just hope to take care of this without having to take it in to be fixed.

    Thanks Kodo,

I'll try this when I get home tonight. If it doesn't work, I'll be back :D

    XP Boot Disks.

Makes up six floppies. Make sure your bios is set to boot the floppy first.

If you are loading into safe mode then it could be a driver issue......could be.

    Thanks Hipster,

I originally thought I had a driver issue a couple of weeks ago when the system would freeze after using Media player.
