xp boot problem after drive image

XP was on a 15gb partition on a 160gb HD. There was a total of 3 partitions, with C: being the middle partition (there was a 4gb, the 15gb, and the rest was drive D:. The 4gb was a hidden partition). So I imaged C: to a new 160gb divided into two 80gb partitions. When I boot it, it responds with "Incorrect boot device... insert proper media". Thinking it was the boot.ini file, I copied it to C: from another PC running XP Home. Again I got the boot error. But if I boot to a floppy with boot.ini, NTLDR, and ntdetect.com on it, drive C: will boot Windows. So I copied the contents of the floppy to the root of C:, and still I get the boot error. So I tried booting to the floppy again, and again it boots into XP just fine. I hope I explained this clearly. Any help is appreciated.

 

I followed the steps at this link: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp and it didn't do anything to help the situation. It still boots fine with the floppy containing the XP boot files; as long as I boot with that in A:, the PC loads to XP just fine....

Problem solved.

Handy hint: keep a floppy (or CD) with the XP boot files handy. I have one for Pro, Home, and MCE. Put these 3 files on there: boot.ini; ntldr; ntdetect.com. If I didn't have these files gleaned from a healthy PC and put on a floppy, I probably would have had to start over from scratch and wasted another 2-3 hours...
