XP BSOD problems reinstalling

Hi pls help
my son's laptop was infected with malware and we began following the Malware removal guide, up to running Counterspy which had been v slow to download and when run at the right time, froze
followed by the BSOD

safe mode would not run, so after no replies from the Malware Forum, and then redirection here, and checking previous possible threads, we followed the repair XP thread
Where I hoped to see a REPAIR option, we got a msg saying repair wasn't an option, so went for a full installation

The set up process was interrupted with 45 copy failures, mainly .dll files, but also 4 exe files, a couple of .chm and 5 .sys files

Not surprisingly the BSOD reappeared

All the files began with letters p, o or q eg: pci.sys, ole32.dll and qasf.dll
Have checked the XP disk for a likely surface glitch, and can't see anything

Can you suggest anything else?

This is a Dell Inspiron 6000 with XP SP2

 

If you are looking to do a clean install of XP here is a site with step by step instructions with pics.
Performing XP clean install.
During installation you can delete the partition that Windows is located on and the reformat.
Remember, this will be a destructive install, save all data on hard drive before you begin.

 

Did you use the disc that came with your computer? Or another disc?

Two things could have happened with your errors.

One, either the disc needs to be cleaned, or is damaged.
Two, the cd/dvd drive drive needs to be cleaned.
Three, the ram may bad.

What error are you receiveing on the bsod?
