My XP machine became infected with some sort of malware? that logs me off of XP immediately after I log on. Based on reviewing threads/boards, there are a few methods to fix this, but it requires me to somehow get to a recovery console or to reinstall XP (not new install). I put my XP CD upgrade into the CD-ROM drive, the blue screen appears with "Windows Setup" in the upper left corner, but it attempts to read something from the floppy drive and never gets past this point. I did the original upgrade years ago and most likely did it when I had a Windows 95 or 98 floppy, which I cannot find. Any suggestions on how to get past this point or to get my machine to boot to something? I really don't want to have to do a new build and reinstall all of the software I have.

    Thanks.

When your computer boots up, you probably see something like "press F2 to enter setup". It might not be F2; it could be delete, escape or any other function key. That's what you want to press. When you get into the BIOS, put the CD drive as the first thing to boot from and move the floppy to third place for the time being. Then exit the BIOS saving the changes and try to boot from the XP CD setup again.

www.bootdisk.com might help. Upgrades can be the cause of future frustrations... Bug
