You could borrow an xp disc (of the exact same install - home / xp / etc) that you have and use your install key which should be on you puter.

    But best to find yours!

Repair install or repair thru repair console will require a disc....what is the reason for doing it?

after surfing the net for anywhere between 20-30 mins my internet disconnects. the only way I can get it to start again is by restarting the computer. I have diagnosed the problem to which it comes back with contact network admin. I have also tried the connection repair, it comes back with ip/tcp can not be found. I have tried winfix to no avail. firewall setting, I have tried 3 new routers. when I command prompt ipconfig it comes up with an error, registry fixs etc etc nothing works, so now I'm up to doing a repair install.

this is a copy of my first questioned I post a while again however no one has been able to give me advice on how to fix the problem.

Hi, I have been having this problem for several months now. After surfing the net for around 40 mins+ my connection drops out. I have just purchased a new Belkin modem however this did not fix the problem. If I reboot the modem this does not work. I have run winsock fix and this also does not fix the problem. The only way i can reconnect is to restart the computer. A few helpful notes: when I click on the connections tab in internet properties there is nothing in the dial up and virtual network settings box when I lose connection if i right click on the icon for my connection in the network connections window, then status, then support, there is nothing in the ip address, default address and submask address. If I try to repair the connection it comes up with an error message saying that it could not locate the ip address or similar and I don't know how this is linked but my speakers don't work when this happens. I have run spyware doctor, ad-Aware se and I use bullguard for anti virus, occasionally they find minor threats but nothing major. Could someone please give me some advice on how to fix this problem

You should be able to reload Windows by burning the i386 folder to a CD. You'd have to format the HD as FAT32, boot to MSDOS (from a Win98 boot disk or MSDOS boot floppy), and run WINNT32 from the CD you burned. The install will be slower, but it will work.....

i just downloaded an advanced system information - error log and this error comes up quite frequently: The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{FBAA1A71- F083-452E-B3AE-47EC3674289D}. The backup browser is stopping.

You should back-up everything you want to keep to DVD's or another partition or hard drive before you try a repair install, as something might go wrong and you might lose it anyway.

You may have to temporarily remove your hard drive and hook it up to a friends PC to back up your stuff. Not having a full version XP CD is making things a bit more difficult than they should be :( After you're hooked up to the 2nd PC and you've saved your stuff either to DVD's or to a folder on the friend's hard drive, re-install your drive in your PC and format and reload Windows using the method I posted above (if you still can't find an XP install CD). When the install is done, and all your drivers are in place, you can restore your data from the DVD's (or hook up to the friend's PC again and move the stuff back to your hard drive)..... good luck!
