Xp Confusion!

My son just put XP on this computer and everything is installed right. Afterwards I was nosing around getting familiar with XP and I was in Device Manage and there was a yellow question mark by Video Controller ( VGA Compatable ) and I have been in Microsoft reading about it and it makes no sense, I have the currant drivers for my graphics card installed and that is no conflicts but this ties in some way with graphics. How can this be fixed? And can someone half assed explain the difference to me? Windows ME wasn't this complicated.

If you did an XP upgrade over ME, might be that you need to upgrade your video drivers to satisfy XP… not that that is a bad thing <smile>.

Is your graphics card on-board (i.e. part of the motherboard) or a seperate card?
If it's a card, make sure you have uninstalled any onboard graphics processor in your BIOS.
You could also try removing the yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager by right-clicking and choosing Uninstall.

 

When one installs a new card into their computer, the onboard video card is now ignored.

When one removes the device in device manager it is recommended to reboot, or Right click on the little computer symbol next to your computer name and scan for new hardware.

My question to the original poster is thus: What video card (or what motherboard) do you have?
