XP desktop disapears and returns

The desktop disappears and computer locks up for a few seconds. I ran a repair installation problem still exists. Ran RegCure, Spybot, CCcleaner and AVG. Problem is still with me. I can start typing again when task bar reappears. Any ideas.

then strat a new thread in the Malware Removal forum to make sure you are not infected.
