When I close a window it closes really slowly, much more slowly than it used to do until recently. I don't know if I have done something to change this - I didn't realise that I had done anything.

I am using XP Home Edition SP3 on an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with 2.00 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 display adaptor driving two 19" LCDs, one off the analogue and the other off the digital output. I know it's an old and slow system now, but it suits me fine and I don't want the hassle or expense of upgrading it at the moment. If I could just sort out this display redraw problem I would be happy.

I have tried installing the latest NVIDIA drivers but this didn't make any difference. New windows open just as fast as they have ever done, it's just when I close a window that this slow redraw occurs. Any suggestions of what to try next would be welcome - thanks in advance.

I have just remembered that this started after I installed Internet Explorer 8.0 and during the installation process it wanted to install a new .NET framework or some such thing and I think this is when the slow window redrawing started.

I had the exact same problem!!!!

But... there's a very simple solution guys. I myself searched for hours and hours and uninstalled my nvidia display driver, but since the problem was still occuring it couldn't be that.
Deinstalled the .net versions because there was one update I could not finish and cleaned the installers and reinstalled all the .net framework versions, but to no avail.

But then I found the culprit.

You know, it's as simple as UNINSTALL WINDOW INTERNET EXPLORER 8!!

Now everything is as smooth as a newborn pc.

Those f**ing a-holes there at microsoft!!!!!

anyway, I hope I helped you and others that will come...

    happy hollydays!

Hey thanks for that, I thought I had tried uninstalling IE 8 but obviously not. Maybe Windows update had reinstalled it for me. Just done it properly and FANTASTIC, what a difference, it's like have a new pc. Thanks again.

    O, and one other thingie...

All my adobe cs4 products are working smooth again also.

Like Photoshop was disabling the gpu hardware renderer on startup so that caused a major drawback in performance.

Now all those problems are gone also. Hardware rendering keeps enabled...

    Jeeeey...

You would kind'a think that those guys at microsoft test their s***e with various software products installed.
And I mean, which major pc user hasn't got adobe products installed these days?
