XP Desktop

    Hello all I have a problem with my daughters Dell inspiron e1505 lap top.
    The thing reboots ok but when it goes to the desktop for a second all the icons disappear also even in safe mode? The back ground pic will still be there but poof no icons??

    Hi

    Quick check thing is right click the desktop choose Arrange Icons and make sure "show desktop icons" is checked.

    Does your taskbar and start menu show ok? if not then this is a more serious issue.

    everything shows first then poof after a few seconds its all gone but the desktop picture. I can sometimes ( if im fast enough get the start/programs to open) I also noticed I cant do a system restore ( no previous dates).. Thank you

    Its all back ? I updated everything and did some scans TROJAN i guess

    Hi

    Try this app http://www.majorgeeks.com/Taskbar_Repair_Tool_Plus_d4307.html and its first option under Taskbar Options, Taskbar Missing, if that doesnt resurect anything then do definatly follow the below.

    Yes possible trojan could cause this so to rule malware out please try the following and remember to start a new thread in the malware forum ( link is below ) and give brief outline of the issue, what windows version your using and attach the logs.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
