Not sure whether this should go in the hardware or software section but im assuming its a software problem so here goes.
I just built a comp over the weekend and for some reason windows is detecting a 3.5in floppy but I do not have one. Anyone got any ideas as to why its doing this and what I need to do to make it go away

I would first check your BIOS, if your BIOS is unchanged from your previous install, it will tell Windows that there is a floppy there, you should be able to make the changes in your BIOS to eliminate the Floppy, if not remove the BIOS Battery for about a minute, then reinstall. Hope That Helps, Oh and WELCOME TO MAJOR GEEKS NEWCOMP

The mobo should be brand new so this cant be some sort of hold over from a previous install, but I will definintly check the bios setting for this. Should it be something as simple as disabling 3.5in floppy?

It could also be as simple as installing your chipset/mobo drivers, did you?:)

Quite possibly. That's the first thing that I'd look for in the BIOS settings.
