Ok don't know if it had anythinhg to do with it but I uninstalled PowerIso and then a little later noticed Disk Management could not be accessed... I get the RCP error "RCP server is unavailable" I have went into services and checked to make sure the RCP & logical Disk Management services are set correct and started (many times).. Im thinking that maybe when I uninstalled PowerIso it removed the disk manager files that let it operate correctly I can go into Disk Defrag and and all just not disk Management.. I've seen some fixes that installed the file dmreg.inf and I thought dmreg.dll (cant confirm that for sure) but cant find the files anyway on my system disks and i386 folders and not sure how to attempt repair with not having to do a "system fix"

So any help would be appreciated

I saw one post about trying to access it in Safe Mode. Might be worth a quick attempt. (F8 at bootup)

When you go into Services, is DCOM Server Process Launcher set to Automatic?

First, what OS and service pack are you using. If you have XP SP2 or later, you should have DCOM installed. From what I have read, RPC errors are very hard to fix and it is recommended to to a repair install. When you go into the event viewer, what errors do you see under system?

Ok a couple of logical disk manager successfully started (but its not working) (ive started and stopped the RPC's and logical Disk managers tons of times (and lots of other stuff in the services...

Time rpc Ive turned it on as it doent want to seem to stay on some of the time.. Although its been on all the time in the last few days

a lot of system hangs Internet explorer
nothing I could say was associated with the problem

BUT I dont know what 90% of the events even mean... what would I look for as a problem?

I would look for anything related to RPC or Dcom. But, you might have luck following these steps. On the referenced link, do not do a registry clean as it suggests. Just follow the steps shown up to 8 and see if it helps. Sometimes an RPC error is the result of malware. You might want to head over to the Malware forum if the below steps do not help.

    1. Go to Start and Run
    2. Type in DCOMCNFG
    3. Click on Component Services
    4. Click on Computers
    5. In Computers, right click My Computer
    6. Choose Properties
    7. Go the Default Properties tab
    8. Make sure the box is checked for "Enable Distributed COM on this computer. If not check it and hit apply. Restart the computer. (edited by tgell)

Now see if there is a Dcom service and make sure it is set to Auto.

Are you at all familiar with Regedit?

You could check the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DcomLaunch and see if the Start value is set to 2 (for automatic).
