XP doesn't recognize my sound card

    Hi again.
I screwed up this time. I was trying to update the driver for my Creative SB Audigy 2 card because my sound continuously went up & down in volume no matter which player I used. I thought updating my driver might work, but now I get no sound at all from my computer. I stupidly forgot to create a restore point, but that didn't seem to matter - I tried to go back to a restore point I made the day before but the sound still does not work. I tried to roll back to the previous driver, but that didn't work either.

I checked all the connections on my speakers & sub-woofer. I ran Creative Diagnostics & it said everything is working fine. I went to Creative's website and downloaded every update I could. The device is enabled & working properly according to XP. When I go to Device Manager, there is no longer a yellow exclamation point next to the Audigy.

However, when I go to Sounds & Audio Devices from the Control Panel, nothing is chosen under the Audio or Voice tabs and there is nothing to pick in the drop-down menu. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Do I need to uninstall & re-install?

    Thanks for any help.

    Dana

Yes, I recommend the following. Uninstall all the drivers for the sound card. Reboot and windows should then detect the sound card. Then install the drivers again.

I guess it actually didn't work.
My sound still goes up & down in volume and now I get a blue screen every couple of days. It starts with Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal.

    Any ideas?
Should I do another uninstall & reinstall?
    Thanks for the help.
