Thank you, Halo, I did find that the machine does need to be on.
Coordinating electronics needs is a never ending process with the advent of new technology.
Land lines are on the way out I think.

Hi, there are some services that use internet faxing, not landlines. Your fax will be more like an email than a fax. You get it later and sort of print it off.
Google internet faxing. Some services are like 2 a day free, but have a page of advertising and some are monthly pay services. I think you get a ficticious tele fax nr and everything.
    Good luck.

I have been reading what you are telling me. I am looking to lose my land line and this would be a good way. Thanx.

If you have XP home edition it came with fax option. You will find it in the add/remove programs
Click windows components on the left of the window
put a check mark in the fax

It is designed by default to run through your outlook, this can be changed as the so with connection options land line, internet.

Before you just jump right into it...please open start click on Help and Support Center type install fax into the search and then enter.

    There are complete instructions.

FYI I am probably the last person still using XP2002, and I have the fax feature.
