XP Font Issues / Garbled display

Hey.

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a serious problem with the font that's being displayed in Windows; instead of the usual font, everything is characters and shapes. Even the 'Start' button isn't in plain Tahoma (if that's the default font?). I have run various virus/spyware/adware (etc) scans, but the results have returned nothing. The marjority of things I type appear garbled (i.e. notepad, google.com search entries etc). For some reason though what I'm writing now appears to be fine (?!)

I currently running Windows XP SP2 / P4 2.4ghz.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful.

Try resetting the Theme. Go into Display properties (right-click desktop) and select the Windows Classic there, or something.

You can directly change Fonts in Display Properties on the Appearance tab --> Advanced button. Click on the text in the sample window to change the font for that class of text. Not sure what class the Start button is, however.
