XP Fonts

    I'm trying to move some of the fonts from my Win98SE machine to the XP machine, with no luck. XP refuses to let me move any files into the fonts folder. How can I do this? Thanks.

    Have you checked the folder properties to make sure they're not set to 'read only'?

    Hi Bill


    Once you have checked the above setting dlb mentions.........

    Really speaking you should be able to drag and drop them into the fonts folder, so make sure your logged on as the XP Admin and try Drag and Drop, if that not work try the below, default method.

    Are they copied to CD?
    What font type are they True Type or Type 1?

    If they are on CD then transfer them to the hard drive of the XP PC, then open up the Fonts folder C:\Windows\Fonts then click File > Install new Font and browse for location of the fonts highlight all and click Install.

    If you get any errors telling you why they are not installing do let us know.


    Also you may have a corrupted Font Folder and TweakUI for XP ( Part of the XP Powertoys ) has an option to repair the fonts folder, under the Repair Menu.

    Thanks guys, that got it. My main problem is I was bone tired, and the click box in properties just wasn't registering.

    I had a second problem is I couldn't move files out of the zipped fonts folder I had transfered from my 98SE hard disk to my XP hard disk in one step. I had to unpack it first, then move the files over.

    But it is done. Thanks again.

    Here is the project I was working on, business cards to help an associated youth group, The International Order of Rainbow Girls. DeMolay and Rainbow tend to do a lot of things together, go figure.
