XP Freezes On Boot Up

Treat me well Geeks with this being my first post.

A good friend pointed me in the direction of you all.

My XP system was fine one night, came to power up the next morning and on the XP Pro startup window the blue scrolling bars just stop mid way and the system hangs for ever and a day.

I can boot up in Safe mode with networking OK.

I set the BIOS back to factory setting but still no joy.

Has anyone else experienced this, what could the issue be, there has been no hardware added, no changes made. Was running like a dream one night, the next morning dead!!! :cry

Firstly Welcome to MG This could be a Master Boot record scramble which happens sometimes to us all. An easy fix is... Go into Bios and change your boot order to DVD\CD first boot. Put your XP disc in and save in bios and it will automatically boot from your cd. If you have any SATA Hard Drives press the F6 button which you will be asked for within the first 5 seconds of load so be quick and have your SATA driver floppy handy it will come up on screen when to add Floppy. Let the disc continue to load and a blue screen will appear asking you to install a fresh copy or Repair. Pick the install and further on a similar screen will appear. Now press ''R'' to Repair your XP. This will uninstall the XP ONLY all other files/folders/progs will remain intact so dont fret. Let the reapir continue and hopefully that will do the trick. Oh Dear, Still no Joy.
I managed to get to re-install XP but 2/3rds of the way through, in the install devices bar, once again, the installation hung.

I already had a new harddrive so installed that with the hope of seeing if it might have been a bad sector on the disk, but alas no, with new drive, installation hung at the same place.

I'm getting annoyed with it now, bin time I reckon

3.0Ghz HT CPU
Asus MB
2Gb RAM

A sound mc before this issue hit me!

Any ideas anyone, could it be a mb issue?

I'm lost now apart from taking it to a specialist shope to diagnose.

In regards of the 2 thirds and it stopped loading you could try taking the disc out (when bar stops) spin it 190 degrees and push tray back in and see if it continues after a while, you might have to hit the Enter button. If it is sticking at the same place it could be a bad disc as you have said the Hard Drive is new so that should cancel out a bad sector on hard Drive. Another thought is if you have 2 Roms and have you tried to install in either ???
