A friend of mine has had a xp crash while playing a game(not on line) ,he has only had the machine 6 months ,machine will now not even boot in safe mode(keeps rebooting) and he does not have a recovery disk for it .
When he rang supplier (tiny) they told him they want £40 for recovery disk as its his fault as he was playing a game at the time ???
anyway any other ideas of getting into it and if so do you think i should reformat disk before putting new OS on or just install over it.

Try booting to Last Known Good Configuration.

Big time problems when installing xp ,bombs me out when entering username and company,
tried fdisk ,formatted, and tried 98 upgrade, but as it was a upgrade disk it could not find an exsisting microsoft product.so tried installing windows 95 go up to entering OEM number then keep getting "SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module COMCTL31. DLL at0003.3sca" or "sysdetmg.dll "message.
On what i've found on SUWIN it looks like a hardware fault "memory/cache/mobo" maybe.anyone had similar probs. http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/images/icons/icon9.gif

No way you will get 95 on that machine. What do you mean by bombs out when putting in username and company?

I load the 6 floppy disks for xp professinol((it cant detect setup from e drive ?) it then sees the e:drive and starts loading xp pro ,it asks if i want to format which i have done it then checks drive all ok, it then starts copying files into hard drive as its loading it it informs me of the various files that are missing from my CD ,but i know someone who has the same cd as me and had no problem loading it over the top of win98 .
but could that be that most files are the same over the microsoft range so it found them on the 98 system he was loading over .
thanks for the info of loading 95 on to it is it because he has a ntfs drive and it did not recognise it any more help would be appreciated.

Is your XP CD an MS original CD or a burned copy?

this is the situation i am in
there is no o/s on machine (was xp home)
the hard drive has been fomated using win98 set up disk
the disks i have available to me at the moment are
    win95
    win98 upgrade
    xp proffesniol (copy)
the 6 xp pro floppy disks to enable booting from floppy , as when i changed sequence to boot from CD/DVD drive it did not find set up or correct files to boot from there.

Try an official Microsoft Windows XP CD.

Could be different things, such as the CD burned at too high a speed. When troublshooting setup problems it's best to not use copied CDs.

Yesterday when i was trying to go into safe mode i had the files streaming down the screen loading onto the machine then i got a message
that windows had encounted a problem and that it had to shut down and gave
a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_ERROR and a lot of noughts and numbers but no files were displayed i guess this was a memory address
has anyone come across this type of message before
