XP Home Restart issue

Hi All;
One of my desktops running xp home will not restart or shut down unless you hold in the start button. I have run registry cleaners to no avail. All other operations function just fine.
Any help appreciated.:confused

 

Have you tried System Restore to before this problem started?

 

Does XP's Event Viewer tell you anything?

Start > Run > eventvwr.msc

Try to shut down, and without forcing a shutdown look at any errors around the time of the shutdown attempt. Double click an error to view the report. If you don't understand the report then click the copy icon top right and paste it here - but try System Restore first, as suggested.

 

All those registry "cleaners" may have gotten too clean and removed a key in the registry.

 

Is this a recent problem or one that the computer in question has had from the beginning?

 

This issue has been going on for a long, long time, but as everything else is normal and works fine, I just haven't done anything about it and more or less forgot all about it. (I never use this computer myself, so it was easy to forget). I only noticed it again as I was up-dating from Office 2003 to 2007.
The only register cleaner used was CCleaner and this was a problem before I ever started using it.
