    Hi all,

I have a dead dog here. Windows update did an update the other night. The next morning the machine booted properly. 24 hours later the computer won't boot.

XP seems to be trying to say that something went wrong.

The screen which asks if I want safe mode, safe mode LAN or Normal.

Anyone else have this happen on an HP Pavillion 753n ??

i had the same problem with my hp, that sp2 has something screwy about it, i ended up pushing "normal" mode and it booted up, after that i uninstalled sp2, for some reason now i'm having trouble getting into certain websites and when i'm trying to download movies or music it freezes and i have no idea how to fix that. any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but mine is even worse. It just keeps coming back to the screen where I "could" push normal, safe mode etc. (I've tried them all)

Could the S Worm be doing this? I use the hardware firewall on the router at home and NortonAV is up to date.

(I sure do miss my old HPd250...)

    HI,

I have had similar problems with sp2 on a gateway, do a repair install of xp and should fix your problems. I have installed sp2 on 6 other computers with no problems at all.

M$ said it was due to spyware or a virus or by having norton running during the install.

I now only install it when I know the comp is clean, with everything shut off and with the sp2 cd from M$

This is totally off topic, but I need help with my Internet explorer. If anyone is able to help, let me know.

Everytime I click to open something, the internet exporer window comes up and says I have an error. Do I want to send a report?

I have no idea what is going on.

    IM me at: jlkisawesome
    Or respond. Thanks!

    Doby,

    Thanx,

I figured that is the problem too. I have to make up some boot disks ans that's what I'll try tonight.

Just boot from your XP cd or system disk that came with your cd, a window winn come up and ask you what you would like to do. Pick repair and follow instructions.

Windows will be repaired but all your personal settings/files will still be there.

After doing this back everything up you don't want to lose if things still ain't right then do a format and clean install.

Have you checked HP's website to see if they have any suggested downloads/patches prior to installing SP2?

    Thanx to all.

Actually, the problem was the HD. A sector gave up the ghost. Booted from a boot disk kit and ran CHKDSK from DOS.

Did a complete checkup after that. All is well now. :)
