    :confused

I am trying to upgrade from MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2 to XP Pro.

Can anyone help with the following error...
Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer
than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently
installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered.

You probably have SP2 on the computer, and your CD is SP0 (meaning it has no service pack) or SP1. Or you have SP3 on the PC and the CD is SP2 or earlier. You can create an updated install CD by slipstreaming the same service pack that is installed on your PC into the install files, then burn it all back to a CD. RVMs Integrator is great for this.

More info about using the Integrator can be found at the RVM home page. Or, you can follow one of these guides:
    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/Slipstreaming_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3.html
    http://www.howtohaven.com/system/slipstream-xp-service-pack-3.shtml
    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3_slipstream.asp
Those guides are all about slipstreaming SP3 into an install CD. If you need to create an SP2 CD, the process is basically the same; just Google "slipstream SP2" and you'll get all the info you need.
However, in any case, it's always a good idea to back up anything you consider important or irreplaceable when upgrading or reloading Windows. Strange and unexpected things can happen, so save your stuff to an external drive or burn it CD/DVD before starting.

Before I got your post, I talked to a friend who said to uninstall SP2. I did and was successful at installing XP Pro. Now I can't install SP2. I need to get SP2 so I can get AVG installed as a firewall. I get an error that says something about the product ID or product key not matching. I was so frustrated after waited hours to download and all the checking system compatibility blah blah blahs, that I didn't read the error carefully. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The product key for Home is not the same as Pro so,you have to buy the product key for pro.

I have a product key for XP home and a product key for XP Pro. They are different, but upon updating to XP Pro, I used the XP pro product code. Any other suggestions?
