Not knowing fully what your daughter did it's hard to say how to reverse the problem. However, if you are satisfied with simply reinstalling the operating system, and have no files on the computer you need to save, then simply put the recovery disk in the disk drive and reboot your computer. It should start the recovery by booting from the recovery disk. Then simply follow the instructions on the screen.

    Greetings, dirtfan50.

You may not have to go for something so drastic as a reinstall.

First of all, check out this MS article, especially the "Last known good configuration" section.

Since you have your XP disk, you may also be able to repair your problem by running the Recovery Console.

If, however, all else fails, then here's a good illustrated walkthrough for reinstalling XP.

I use the software called avast. They have a free download and it has saved my bacon with the very same. or similar problem. I had MacFee locate files causing the problem but it could not clean it like avast did on the first run. Hope this helps.

Yeah hold off on that reinstall until the last minute.
NEVER EVER resort to reinstalling until you have exhausted all other measures, else all your documents, photos, po*n and other important stuff will be deleted.

And furthermore, I know im new to this site, but please give more information.
What was your daughter trying to uninstall?
    How did she attempt this?
Was she trying a system upgrade?
    How old is she?

Anyway, as has been suggested, put the XP Home CD in your tray, reboot your machine, go through the prompts until you get to Repair (Windows XP Home) NOT the console.
This will simply leave your files intact and repair/replace and important system files on your machine.

Furthermore, once you have done this, copy the i386 folder from the CD to you C: drive for further use.
