xp home wont network

hi, i have a sony vaio jobbie with xp home, everything was working just fine until, for resons i wont go into, i took a copy of one of the windows directorys - the one that hold the drivers - then put the copy back... thing is, since then windows has been very very slow, wont start properly and even when it is running; it wont network. any ideas what i might have done? or is there a windows diagnostic tool that can tell me??
