XP Home

I have a Compaq presario which has xP Home on it .As it hadnt been reloaded since 2004 and was having a lot of problems i have rstores it to factory settings .This works fine and then after it has reloaded the system comes up ok.

The problem i am having is that when i put SP3 on it (which loads fine ) it then reloads and starts the windows load process , about 30 seconds aftwer the Logo appears it then reloads itself .

I am vert confused as i though SP3 is generic and for XP professional and also XP home .

Could anybody shed any light on the problem .

Nb When got the machine ( from a friend ) it has XP home and also SP2 on it
and so i thought ir needed raloding and SP 3 putting on it .

please help this is sending me round the twist.

I have reloded SP3from windows update and also from CD but same problem ,

It could be a corrupt version of SP3. Also is your hardware up to spec to run SP3? It may be worth just staying with SP2 until you upgrade to a newer machine or OS.

Please ensure that SP1 is installed before attempting to install SP3 as SP3 will not install without it , as you say that you have done a factory reset it will restore it to the OS version that it was dispatched with.

 

suggest that you update your device's drivers and see that will happen.
