Xp-HP recovery partition

    I have a computer that will not respond to the f10 key to advance into the system recovery options . The computer has no recovery disc, just the partition on the hard drive? Any solutions to this . When I hit the f10 key at startup the screen goes to the black screen like it is getting ready ,but just sits there with one blinking straight line.
