XP Install Freezing

Hope its ok to post this message here. I am in desperate need of help with XP install. I recently upgraded my hard drive and added new cdr. The hard drive was formated and everytime I try to install Windows XP it freezes during install. Ram was added to 512 from 256.

I was on the phone with MS three times and still no luck! Anyone else experience this problem or know of a solution?

try running the install with only 1 stick of RAM (I am assuming you had a 256MB stick, and got another one)

often, if you dont have matching sticks of RAM, problems can occur. Windows setup is particularly picky, as it has only general driver support. If you make it through Windows installation with the old stick of RAM and install the motherboard chipset drivers, the new RAM might not give you trouble.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried running with one today no luck. I am going to take my computer in tomorrow and see if they can check my intel chip, motherboard and bios update.

This is the info on my computer.
Amtron 925 p4
Intel p4c/1.7 gig
5400 rbm samsung
40gb hd

upgraded to 512 memory and 100 gb hd.
Is there a way to test the pentium chip online to see if its functioning properly?
I tried installing 98se it went on without any problems! lol
But I dont want 98 anymore to many weird errors in explorer etc.

i strongly doubt its a CPU problem, those are usually very obvious-- you'll have a pretty black screen with nothing.

it could the hard drive or the motherboard. If you can run some diagnostics on the new Hard Drive to make sure its good, that'd be the best idea. you can even do it yourself if you download the manufacturer's diagnostic utility.
