xp install problems

    Hi
    I have a dell Latitude c640 that i am trying to install xp onto .
    The problem is that during the file copying i get several messages telling me that certain files are not valid windows system files .
    And then get a blue screen stop message

    what's going on . I know my disk is genuine and works as i installed on my desktop pc .

    HELP !!!!!!!!

    Was this an xp cd that came with the desktop? Is it an OEM disk?

    The it is probably an OEM disk and will only install on that brand of desktop ...you can only install one xp software os on one computer ...you'll need to buy an xp disc for the laptop ....or revert back to whatever version was originally on the laptop.

    there is no other version on laptop
    so iguess i'm stuck
