I have a Compaq presario that came preinstalled with WinXP. I found another comp with a bad HD in the trash. I replaced the HD and bought another copy of WinXP for it. My question: can I use the installation disk that I purchased for the other comp. with my Compaq's product key to do a clean install, or is the product key tied to a particular disk?

I have separate WinXP product keys for both computers. They both have official, microsoft-approved, activated XP OS's. It is an OEM install disk. Will I be able to use my Compaq 's product key to do a clean install onto my Compaq computer or will it only work with the OEM product key (which I used to install to the other computer) that was purchased with the disk? I've read here and other places that it is good to do a clean install every year or so to clean out the junk that accumulates in the OS eventually to keep things at peak shape.
