xp keeps randomly restarting

windows xp pro keeps rebooting at the welcome screen before it loads all the way could the be a corupt kernel32.dll ?

 

Unlikely, and the information you have provided doesn't support evidence of it (or anything else).

Have you tried Safe Mode? Can you not get to the desktop at all? Do you have SP2?

this isnt my computer all i no is that my friend has windows xp sp2 he turns it on and then it boots up normal then somewhere between the windows is tating screen and when it shows the users it just restarts no prompting what so ever

 

try booting to the recovery console and tr FIXMBR. there may be something in the master boot record that is corrupted.

 

i try that if my first idea dont work

 

If the MBR is corrupt, you won't even get to the Windows screen.

 

thats what i thought after all i just had to deal with that

 

just get your xp pro and let it load when the scran comes up type in r or what ever it is to reapin and then a comand prompt will come up type in chkdsk_\r\p windows will fix it self

 

chkdsk only repairs the file system and the dive, it does not repair windows. SFC /scannow replaces corrupt files. Reboots can be caused by a variety of things. There is no 'Magic' command that will fix windows.

From the recovery console run the following commands"

chkdsk /r /p
sfc /scannow

Reboot after each coomand. What happens?
